Amara Terra/A Wounded Land: migrant women, exploitation and forms of resistance in the Sicilian countryside. A new book is out!
Written by Monica Massari Federica Cabras and Simona Miceli, with photos and contributions by Alessandra Cianelli, a preface by Maria Nadotti and creative graphic design by Pilar Del Sere, the volume draws on the results of extensive field research conducted by the research team of the University of Milan, as part of the PRIN2020 MOBS-Mobilities, Solidarities and Imaginaries across the Borders project, on the forms of exploitation of female migrant workers employed in the countryside of the Vittoria area in eastern Sicily
Integrating sociological research methods with artistic practices, oral sources with visual sources, the volume explores the working and living conditions in particular of women of Romanian origin employed in local agricultural production and the daily micro-practices of resistance acted out by these women within a particularly complex and dense context of contradictions.
The book is also addressed to a lay audience and strongly inspired by a vocation for public sociology – a way of understanding the practice of social research in connection with public space and communities -the volume is in Italian/English and can be downloaded at the following link, both in PDF and EPUB format: https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/206
